Day 2:
Early transfer to Chivay, enjoy a scenic drive into the valley, bending around the El Misti and Chachani volcanoes, which we will be able to see from Volcano view point at 15 750 feet above sea level.
This remote region of stunning beauty remains almost the same as in Inca times, its scattered villages dedicated to agriculture. The Colca Canyon at over 3,000 metres is one of the deepest in the world and a perfect haven for the sacred condor.
And passing through the Laguna Salinas and Aguada Blanca Nature Reserve, where you have a chance to view rare vicuñas, llamas, and alpacas from the road. This afternoon we arrive in Chivay, the valley's main town on the edge of the canyon and the gateway to the region, which lies at an altitude of 11,810 ft. .
Transfer to hotel for overnight in Chivay.
Day 3: Early visit to LA CRUZ DEL, a magnificent lookout point (3,940 ft. above the canyon river) on one side of Colca Canyon. You will be sure to be in place very early in order to view its spectacular inhabitants, the graceful Andean condors. The condors, the largest birds in the world, with awesome wingspans of 11 1/2 feet, suddenly begin to appear, circling far below in the gorge and gradually gaining altitude with each pass, until they literally soar silently above the heads of awestruck admirers.
Condors are such immense and heavy creatures that they cannot simply lift off from the ground; instead, they take flight from cliff perches.
You will also stop in some Colonial Villages in the valley, including Yanque, Coporaque, Maca, and Lari. Dispersed across the Colca Valley, many of the villages date to the 16th century and are distinguished primarily by their small but often richly decorated churches. Local populations in the valley, descendants of the Collaguas and Cabanas, pre-Inca ethnic communities, preserve ancient customs and distinctive traditional dress. They speak different languages and can be distinguished by their hats; some women wear hats with colored ribbons, and others have elaborately embroidered and sequined headgear.
This evening you will be returning to Arequipa city.
Overnight in Arequipa city.
